Could food grow on buildings?
Could the private contain the public?
This project challenges conventional urban planning by reimagining the role of the architect as an entrepreneur, offering a bold alternative to the prevailing capitalist-driven model. Rather than compromising the urban environment, culture, and nature, this research explores how Design, Technology, and Business Solutions can converge to create a sustainable and inclusive urban reality.
Rethinking Urban Landscapes
How far does the food on your plate travel before it reaches you? Can cities become self-sufficient ecosystems? This research delves into these questions by investigating the potential of urban agriculture, where food can be grown on buildings, rooftops, and vertical farms, dramatically shortening the distance from farm to table. Such innovations could not only reduce carbon footprints but also integrate green spaces into the urban fabric, enhancing biodiversity within cities.
In addition, the project explores the blurring boundaries between private and public spaces, proposing designs where private developments could include public amenities, creating a more connected and community-oriented urban environment. This approach fosters social interaction and inclusivity while respecting privacy and ownership.
